Round 27 in Superleague means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Kutaisi where host Kutaisi (18-9) edged league's leader Batumi(18-9) 76-73 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Batumi. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 40-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Kutaisi looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kutaisi made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Azerbaijani guard Zaur Pashaev (188-83) who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Levan Tsekvava (190-89) chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Kutaisi's coach Kote Tugushi used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Ukrainian forward Leonid Stefanishin (199-85) who recorded 13 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and Ukrainian forward Igor Krivtsov (201-86) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Five Batumi players scored in double figures. Kutaisi have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Batumi. Batumi will play next round against strong Sokhumi trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Kutaisi will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Dinamo Tbilisi on the road.
