Georgian Superleague round 8 best performance: Sergo Atuashvili

Center Sergo Atuashvili (223-C-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Sokhumi, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 30-year old player had a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds, while his team beat Rustavi (#6, 3-5) 71-57. Sokhumi maintains the 3rd position in Georgian Superleague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Sokhumi will need more victories to improve their 5-3 record. In the team's last game Atuashvili had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Sokhumi's top player in his first season with the team. Sergo Atuashvili averages this season 12.0ppg and 6.9rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old American Maurice Lewis-Briggs (203-C/F-90, agency: Mansfield and Associates) of MIA Academy. Lewis-Briggs had a very good evening with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. Of course he led MIA Academy to another comfortable win 73-54 over the higher-ranked Olimpi (#4, 4-4) being unquestionably team leader. MIA Academy's 7th position in the standings has not changed. 7 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory MIA Academy managed to get this year. Lewis-Briggs is a newcomer at MIA Academy, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was international forward Akaki Dvalishvili (206-PF-91) of league's top team Batumi. Dvalishvili scored 18 points and grabbed sixteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Dvalishvili's great performance Batumi lost 64-76 to the lower-ranked Dinamo Tbilisi (#5, 4-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Batumi needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 6 victories and 2 lost games. Dvalishvili has a great season in Georgia. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.5ppg (6th best) and rebounds with 12.3rpg (#1 in league). He also has 1.1bpg and FGP: 52.3%.
